Getting started

  1. Install moldr and open it. It appears in your menu bar — there's no Dock icon or main window.
  2. Grant Accessibility. On first use, macOS asks for Accessibility permission. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility and turn moldr on. This is what lets it arrange your windows.
  3. Arrange & save. Lay your apps out the way you like, then press the capture shortcut ⌃⌥⌘ ↩ (or click Save Mold in the menu) to save it.
  4. Apply anytime. Press your mold's shortcut (e.g. ⌃⌥⌘ 1) and moldr launches the apps and snaps every window back into place.

Frequently asked

Why does moldr need Accessibility permission?

macOS only lets apps read and move other apps' windows if you grant Accessibility. Without it, moldr can't position your windows. The permission is used entirely on your Mac — nothing is sent anywhere.

How do I save a layout?

Arrange your windows, then press ⌃⌥⌘ ↩ or open the menu-bar panel and click Save Mold. You can name it and choose whether it covers the current screen or all connected displays.

Does it work with multiple displays?

Yes. Molds remember which display each window was on. When you apply a mold on a different monitor setup, moldr rescales the layout to fit the screen you're on.

Which terminals are supported?

Terminal.app, Ghostty, and iTerm2 can restore their windows along with the command each tab was running. To use one of these, save the mold with that terminal's window open.

I also use Magnet or Rectangle — will they conflict?

They can. Other window managers may claim the same ⌃⌥ snap shortcuts. moldr detects when one is running and offers to quit it, so its own shortcuts work reliably.

Where are my molds stored?

Locally, in ~/Library/Application Support/moldr/. They never leave your Mac.

I can't find the menu-bar icon.

On Macs with a notch, menu-bar items can be hidden behind it when the bar is crowded. Hold and drag menu-bar icons to rearrange them, or quit a few menu-bar apps to make room.
